FEBRUARY FAVOURITES 2014
FINALLY, I have some time on my hands to do my "February Favourites", there were a few non-beauty items I wanted to talk about, but I may keep them for my "March Favourites" instead, just because I need to give them a good try first!
So the photo above includes all the products I have chosen as my favourites for last month! (It looks like I've also been loving the colour pink!) I was going to do a video on them, my FIRST ever favourites video, but I never get any time during the day where everyone is quiet, the sun's out and I can film in daylight... This never happens with a baby OR a husband in the house for me haha...
BUT, I will try my best next time!
Here are my February 2014 Favourites:
1) Blush/Bronzer Duo in Orgasm/Laguna by NARS
I got sent this blush and bronzer duo at Christmas in a beauty swap with EMYLI from www.di-amore.com. The actual casing is so small compared to some of my other blushers and bronzers, but it does last such a long time.
The powders are quite highly pigmented, so it's not as if I have to use a lot for each application.
I actually love the size of the powders and as they come together, it is just perfect for travelling, or just for your handbag when you feel you need to touch up during the day.
I absolutely LOVE the colour of the blusher, I guess it is just "orgasmic", so many people are now talking about this blusher on Youtube and beauty blogs, so I feel so lucky that I got sent it!
At first, when I saw this NARS product in the beauty swap box that I received, I thought it would be something I want to try and not buy... But when or should I say IF this thing runs out, I will definitely be going to buy it again. I may just buy the blusher because I am so in love with it.
I definitely recommend trying the blusher by NARS in "Orgasm".
2) Detangling Brush by MICHEL MERCIER
This is actually what I'd call a bargain buy...
I went into TK MAXX and really did not go in for a hair brush, I didn't need another one and definitely don't need ANY more now.
This Michel Mercier hairbrush may remind you a little of the Tangle Teezer, and to be honest, it really isn't very different... I think this brush is a VERY good dupe of the Tangle Teezer.
It does exactly the same thing, but one thing is that I find the Tangle Teezer less harsh on the hair.
The Michel Mercier brush is in a shape of a paddle brush, or the more conventional brush, which does help because I sometimes feel it's quite hard to keep hold of the Tangle Teezer (Original/Compact), especially after applying oils to my hair, because my hands will be all slippery.
However, as I said, it may feel better when you use the Tangle Teezer because you can't actually hear the knots being separated.
Here's the size comparison of the Michel Mercier and the Aqua Splash by Tangle Teezer.
The Michel Mercier even has a "dupe price", this meaning it is cheaper than the Tangle Teezer of course :
TANGLE TEEZER : >10GBP
MICHEL MERCIER : 6.99GBP
I think this brush is good enough, it may not be better than the Tangle Teezer but I think its just as good, especially as it costs less, so if you're working on a budget and can't spend that much on JUST a hairbrush, maybe head to TK Maxx and see if it's still there!
3) Hand Food by Soap & Glory
This has always been a favourite, but I am using it a little less now because I've got so many other hand creams to try.
The pump bottle on the left came in a pack with the hand soap which my mother-in-law gave to me a couple of months ago, so I keep the pump bottle in the bathroom and use it after I have washed my hands.
I am actually now using the Molton Brown range and it is good, but I super miss the smell of Soap & Glory's hand food!
I wanted to talk about this hand cream because my mum even asked me about it. For the price, it is worth it, the tube is 125ml which obviously doesn't work with flights, but you can get the travel tubes which are also sold at boots. The smell is inexplicable, but some people don't like the idea of Soap and Glory...
This is actually one of my most favourite drugstore products, literally just because the smell is so addictive. I don't like hand creams that are too watery, or too thick, so the consistency has to be perfect and this is where Hand Food steps in.
If you haven't checked my blog recently, I am actually doing a GIVEAWAY and the Hand Food is an item which will be sent away to the winner, so enter it and you can give Hand Food a try yourself! (The giveaway ends on 14th March 2014).
4) S-File by STYLFILE
Some of you may have seen this in drugstores, maybe Boots or Sainsbury's... I saw this in Boots months ago, but never bought it because 4.99GBP to me for JUST a nail file seemed a little TOO much.
So I was so happy to pick up this bargain at 2.99GBP in TK Maxx - yes, I seem to be loving TK Maxx a lot recently.
So the S-file is called this, literally because it's in a shape of an S... A little obvious I know, but the shape of this file makes it a lot easier to shape your nails. I have been using emery boards more than nail files because emery boards seem so much smaller and cheaper, but my son keeps on snapping them and I'm left with literally an inch of an emery board to work with.
Just because this nail file has made shaping my nails a lot easier, it has made it's way into my February Favourites, but I still don't think paying 4.99GBP or more for a nail file is reasonable.
SO GO TO TK MAXX!
5) Butter Glosses by NYX
I received these lip glosses in the beauty swap at Christmas, but haven't started using it until it hit February, and I have no explanation as to why I didn't try them earlier!
I love them and I now understand the absolute hype around these NYX lip glosses... After watching Youtube beauty gurus, I didn't get why they were buzzing over these things, to me they just looked like any old coloured lip glosses.
So these 3 lip glosses came in one pack, MERENGUE/CREME BRULEE and APPLE STRUDEL.
The swatch above shows you what they look like in better detail.
They are more pigmented than the coloured glosses I have used before and they have quite a long-lasting power, after applying it in the morning, I probably wouldn't need to touch up until a bit of time after lunch... It stays on after I have eaten and drank something, so they are GOOD.
The application is so smooth but they are very sticky, so on windy days, you'll get that lip gloss hair-on-lips look, which isn't a good look, but hey, what lip glosses don't do that?
My favourite colour out of the 3 would be the Apple Strudel, because I find the Creme Brûlée a little dull? I don't know if I should say dull, but if you look at the swatches, I think you'll get what I mean.
6) Pink Champagne Apple Fragrance Mist by VICTORIA'S SECRET
This is another product that made me think, why is everyone loving this so much? I didn't get it, until I bought it.
I bought it in the sales in London and have been using it as a perfume. Victoria's Secrets have SO many different fragrances, and the only reason I picked this one up was... because it's pink. A bit of a stupid way to decide which to buy, I know... but it doesn't matter because it smells GORGEOUS.
Now that I'm a stay-at-home mother, I spend less time going out and feel less of a need to spray perfume on myself (unless I'm going out for the evening). If I'm just off out to run some errands, shopping or tea with a friend, I'll choose to spray myself with this as it is a cheaper alternative to a perfume and it lasts for the time I need it to whilst I'm out.
7) Nail Lacquer in "Jamaica Me Crazy" by ESSIE
If you know me well enough, you'll know that my nail polish collection could probably last me a lifetime, but half of them have dried out, I don't like the colours anymore or I hate how some of them just DON'T dry...
So recently, I say recently, but it's been over half a year now that I have turned to Essie's nail lacquers. If you haven't tried them yet, I absolutely urge you to buy one to try!
I love the size of the brush as it means I can just do one stroke and my whole nail is covered... Essie also seems to dry a little easier and the colours are just gorgeous.
This one is my new found love "Jamaica Me Crazy", how cute is the name!!!! I love the colour, but when it's painted on the nails, it looks slightly different, slightly lighter, but in my opinion, a lot better! I'll try and do a swatch soon and show you!
There's really not much I can say about Essie, but you need to try it if you haven't already! Especially this gorgeous fuchsia like colour!
This concludes my February favourites post, I'm sorry it's a LITTLE late, I'll try and get my March favourites published on time!
